You could do a few things
one-if your hair is somewhat curly or wavy-do what I do-when it's wet(after your shower) take mousse or gel and rub it all over your hair, then flip your head upside down and scrunch your hair with more mousse in your hands. When it dries, it should be pretty curly.
Two-try hot rollers or a curling iron
Three-get regular foam curlers and put them all over your hair, then sleep in them, when you wake up, take them out gently and you should have curls.
Four-go to a salon and get a perm or you can go to a store and buy an at-home perm kit.

I agree with the braiding thing. But if you don't want it to look too frizzy you can put it in larger braids. There is also a product you can get in beauty outlets called Snap Back it is for African American hair but I just LOVE it. You just need a little bit and scrunch it in your hair while holding your head upside down.

Use a curling iron. It'll only be temporary, but it's a good way to curl your hair for a special night or something.

Use rollers. Don't get a perm unless you want to put chemicals in it. Wash, roll and sit under a dryer.

Get a perm! and when you get it, use mousse, gel, and hairspray, and blow dry your hair with a diffuser, you can get one at walmart by the blowdryers, sometimes they come together! ;)
