Good Vodka should NEVER be flavored. It is a good way too market inferior vodka, though. If you are using it as a mixture, it will limit some of your choices. Who would want a Bloody Mary with a hint of vanilla?

It *can* be. It's a great way to make a lemon drop, a chocolate martini, a cosmopolitan, and a host of other drinks.

Drinks that tend to be sweeter will pretty much always be good with vanilla vodka. Drinks like Manhattans, Bloody Marys, Martinis, Gimlets, etc will NOT be good with Vanilla Vodka, as far as I am concerned.

Vanilla is not my favorite vodka flavor. But there are two drinks I like with vanilla vodka:
cream soda - vanilla vodka and ginger beer
Tolstoy Martini - vanilla vodka shaken with a teaspoon of coffee beans and ice then served up.

Vanilla vodka makes many a tasty drinks.
Van Vod + Orange Juice = Creamscicle
Van Vod + Coke = Vanilla Coke
etc...

However, I agree that flavored vodka is just a marketing ploy to sell inferior vodka (this does not mean it is necessarily bad vodka). My personal favorite flavored vodka is Watermelon.
