Not real sure but I think AKC is harder to get into than ACA. From what I remember, ACA's requirements are a bit more lax. You probably couldn't get AKC papers on a dog that doesn't have two AKC parents. You should probably check out their website. I'm sure all the details are there or at least a number you could call.

The AKC will only register puppies when both parents are AKC registered.

The ACA is a sham registry whose papers are only good for housebreaking.

American Canine Association (ACA) — "America's largest veterinary health tracking purebred canine registry." — Note: In the "Find A Puppy" section of their website, dog/puppy seekers are referred to pet/retail stores. Very little information is available on the website regarding their goals or mission as a registry.

Also important to note, IMHO, is the fact that the information on the ACA page is outdated, links are broken, and in the entire state of Texas they only list TWO locations to "find a puppy". One is Petland, which is notorious for getting its dogs from Puppy Mills.

You could have them registered with the ACA but not the AKC. To register with AKC, both parents have to be AKC.
