I am so tired of other employees interrupting my cashier or customer service rep and they stop working on my order to talk about what someone needs to do next or who can go on break. Shouldn't they finish my order first? Any retail employees out there care to comment? I have to add, I am always courteous, don't act anxious, there is no reason for them to be trying to get back at me, which is not something they should do anyway. I am just waiting patiently while they carry on a conversation.

Just wanted to add -- this happens at a lot of stores. I seldom get to pass through a busy aisle first if an employee is coming the other way. they just have to go first -- never wait back for the customer to pass by.

It is rude, and it goes against the rules of every business I've ever known the rules of. What happens is many times they must hire apathetic people because of the low pay. These people need to be told how to act. They are the ones who do it the most. They'll answer the phone when you walk up and run the whole transaction without saying a word to you. If you had any special requests or questions you never had a chance to iterate them. EXTREMELY RUDE but, thankfully, STILL UNACCEPTABLE TO BUSINESSES, so report them.
Then, there are some that just get comfortable in their positions and have a stream-lined mentality about things and so don't think that they really need to concentrate on what they are doing. This type does it usually sub-consciously and not on purpose. I've seen supervisors get in this mode easily. I've gotten into it myself, but, being a perfectionist, I really keep it to a minimum, and I cut it off as quickly as I can. Now, I work in a call center and my friends get mad when I don't play my hand at cards while I'm talking to the customer. They can do both, and so can I if I wanted to, but I could miss something and my customer deserves my undivided attention, even though I could do some things without thinking.

Customers are still the first priority or there wouldn't be a business. There are just a lot of rude people out there. Go to a supervisor and file a complaint.

Stores hiremany young people who bring street/outside attitudes to their jobs and behave the same way. To them, it's just a paycheck, and is not like the pay is really high with great benefits. I go to the older reps. they are kinder. The younger ones (mostly) make me feel like I'm an inconvenience or interruption.

What gets me is when you're in line paying, the phone rings and they take the call. I don't mean personal calls...but people calling to find out what their hours are or if they sell this and that, etc. Excuse me, *I* am here! I got off my butt and drove here. Wait on me FIRST! There's no reason why the cashier or pharmacist or photo department person can't tell the caller to please hold a minute.

Sometimes you have to use a firm tone with retail workers to help them realize that you are the customer and you should come first. For example, Excuse me I would like to buy this sometime this year!
