Not all brides are like that, sweetie. My girls looked awesome in their dresses. I took them to the bridal shop and showed them what I chose for them to wear. If they didn't like it we could change it. They liked it. Plus they had to purchase their own dress so they had to agree on what I liked or pick something else.
I am so sorry that your best friend did this to you but as best friends why didn't you tell her what you thought of it? That's what best friends do - - - tell the truth to each other.

Sometimes its to make sure they stand out. But often its because they have a color scheme and everything in mind before picking out the dresses. Besides that, they have a bunch of bridemaids with different skin tones, body shapes, and budgets. Finding the best dress for everyone can be touch.
Everyone knows this, though. When you agreed to be a bridesmaid, did you honestly think you'd be walking down the aisle in a stunning haute couture gown that you'll wear again and again?

Many otherwise intelligent brides have a mental lapse when it comes to the bridesmaid's dresses. For some reason, their normal good taste goes away, and they re-live every Disney movie with a princess in it (which is, I think, most of them), and they get all worked up over making their friends look like a backdrop for Cinderella.
I have no idea why this happens.

Ugh. I don't know what it is with the brides tending to choose these horrible dresses (some of the ones I've seen on "Bridezillas" are truly horrendous!).
I told my maid of honor "These are the colors. Find a full-length dress you like, that you can afford, and *that you will wear again* and let me know what you find."
She found an absolutely stunning dress in a wonderful color for our wedding. It is extremely flattering on her, we got some adorable sandals to go with it, and it just needs to be taken in a bit. Plus, she can wear it again to holiday parties or other formal events. The best part - she got it from a friend of hers who wasn't going to wear it anymore. Total cost: $50, for the alterations.
I don't get the brides who are so insecure that they want to make the others look ugly in order to shine.

I know. Why is it that the dresses can't be cute. Is it so that the bride looks that much better? I had to wear a horrible bridesmaids dress at my brother's wedding. It was soooo ugly and cost a fortune. I was dancing and it started ripping at the seams. We also had very uncomfortable shoes that were ugly too.

Bridemaid's dresses — colour of, style of, fabric of — are in a major fashion crisis. Its hard to believe that the traditional bridesmaid dress has survived so long with so much wonderful modern fashion around.
Brides' dresses seem to get updated and thought about, but bridesmaids' dresses are still languishing in the fashion dungeon.
I'm afraid if you love your best friend, you're going to have to go with it. Make the best of it, try and do your hair to your best advantage, wear the best possible makeup to make you shine out of the peach montrosity.

LOL.... girl, I'm sorry that you feel that way. I did check with all of my bridesmaids first that they liked the dress before actually deciding on them for that very reason. I've heard stories. But I guess in a way you should just be honored that she's asked you to stand up for her in the wedding, regardless of what you have to wear. It's only for one day and it IS your Best friend, right?

I thought bridesmaids dresses were improving :) Well...unfortunately the bride has the say on that. For our wedding, we just had a maid of honor, a junior bridemaid and flower girl - and they all got to pick up their own dresses. I wanted them comfortable and happy for the day and it worked out great. Sorry to hear about your dresses...sounds like a throwback to dresses 20 yrs. ago....

lol...I almost had the same problem a couple of years ago. Me and a couple of other bridesmaids went along with the bride while she attempted to select a mint green long sleeve dress! (Yikes!) Luckily, she was outnumbered and we convinced her to go with a burgundy satin strapless sheath with a bolero type jacket. Way more pleasing to the eyes. Talk to her and get the other girls involved.

My dresses were lovely, inexpensive ($99), and completley re-wearable. I planned it that way. They are great little summer dresses perfect for another wedding or party that might go to. My 15 year old sister in law wore hers to a school dance a few weeks after the wedding.
