They say the #1 family small dog is the boston terrier, but those dogs do tend to have eye problems (because they stick out and hit things) just like pugs do. Any terrier (jack russel, cairn, west highland, etc...) are going to be VERY independant and seem high strung. Beagle's and hound dogs are sweet but noisy. Chihuahua's & Shi Tzu's are good pets, but can be aggressive with children. I wouldn't get a dachund(weiner dog), they can be mean to anyone & have back problems. I have 4 dogs, one is a pappillion, he is actually the best dog I have encountered. He is sweet with no bad tempermant (which is the way with the whole breed) and he is excellent with my child who can get a little rough. Plus he likes to play hard with the other dogs. He's just great !!

Get a short haired mutt. I'm serious, just pick the size you like. Play a bit with the animal before you commit to see if your personalities match.

A mutt is a pure treasure and in my experience normally smarter, better tempered and more loyal than those inbred moronic pedigrees. My neighbor has had three pure bread German Shepherds. The three of them added together are dumber than a sack of hammers.

It depends on what you're looking for in a dog. Different dogs were bred for different jobs, and their personalities vary a lot based on the set of genetics they've got. If you're looking for a poofy lap-dog, the typical dog is the yorkshire terrier. Terriers are generally very people-oriented, but they love to tear apart small animals. Chihuahuas are typically bad-tempered toward anyone not family. Think about what personality you want your dog to have and then check online to see the general temperment of that breed.

If you want a small lap dog, I highly recommend a Chihuahua. I have owned many dogs over the past 40 years, from a tiny Chihuahua to a rottweiller and my favorite by far is a Chihuahua.

I have a great dane and LOVE him! He is a great dog. He is big and intimidates other people, but would never bite anyone. He is a great watch dog and lets you know if someone is there. Great dogs. If you get a dog get a big one....otherwise you might as well get a cat.

A mini dachshund (weiner dog) is the best type of dog. They are small, the short haired ones don't shed, and they are very smart and easy to train.

It depend on were you live and what kind of yard you have if you have plenty of room a terrier would be fine because the are kind of hipper dogs but if you want a more laid back dog you might want a hound

A used one!
Rescue a dog from the pound, or enter your breed of choice along with the word "rescue" in the search box and adopt a pup.
Example: "Pug Rescue".
Also try PetFinder.
I hope you adopt!
Good luck

How about a Cairn terrier. My Angus is so cute. They have great dispositions and are very smart.

check them out.

Also there are plenty of dogs in shelters that need homes. You can pick the perfect one, and you would be making a pup very happy!
