I love the name Lily for a girl, but there's a problem with that. My mother has a dog that is literally like a child to her, and the dog's name is Lilly. I named the dog when I was 14 (now 27), and I have always loved that name. I just feel like it would be the perfect name for my little girl, and it goes great with my last name. But, my husband HATES the dog, and hates that my mother treats it like a human, and while he loves the name Lily, he does't want to make my mom think that we are naming the child after the dog. Of course, by the time I have a daughter the dog will most likely be dead...but what do you think?

I think that is a lovely name. You should go a head and name her Lily if you want to. Your mom may always think you named your daughter after that dog but you and your husband know that you didn't so don't worry about it.

Name your little girl Lilly just make it clear to your mom that your child is not named after the dog.

Kill the dog....no I am kidding. Maybe consider having Lily be her middle name, or make it her first name and call her by her middle name. I don't think you should let a dog stand in the way of what you want :)

When you say the name everyone will think of the dog, wont they? If the dog is like a member of the family maybe you should find another name. Suggestions: Lacey, Lexie, Macie, Gracie, Mattison, Amity, Gretchen, Cecily...just trying to help!

Lily is beautiful, I agree......... I would suggest hoping the dog passes before a girl child is born.......LOL. But in all seriousness, if Lily is what you want, then do it, if mom crows about it for some reason, set her straight.

are you pregnant yet? if not, wait to see what the dog's status is and then revisit the discussion with your husband, maybe change the spelling around... make it clear to your mom, YOU named the dog because you loved the name, and you're naming your baby because YOU still love the name, not naming her after a dog

go ahead and name her that, it's a beautiful name that has nothing to do with the dog. if it bothers u that much, go ahead and tell ur mother that u're not naming the child after the dog. it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Go ahead and name your daughter whatever you like, and just explain to your mom that it is not because of the dog.

just make sure he knows you chose that name for the dog for the same reason you want to name your daughter that- because you love the NAME, not the dog.
