Why not join the Army, Navy or Air Force. There are a number of research laboratories in each of these services. They always need laboratory technicians and often will train soldiers to do this work. If scientific research isn't the kind of lab tech you are talking about, these military branches also have training programs for clinical laboratory technicians and clinical laboratory officers. Many soldiers who have learned how to be lab techs in my clinical laboratory have gone on to become successful laboratory professionals at local hospitals and hospitals in their own home towns after leaving the service.

The military also provides education benefits and if you work hard the military may continue you to support you in advance training in colleges and graduate schools. It's all up to you.

I have watched several enlisted soldiers who worked with me in the laboratory go on to earn Masters and PhD degrees supported by programs you can discover at the links below

Yes- scholarships are available. Depending on where you live many companies, individuals, medical institutions, and professional organizations may offer applicable or even general scholarships that you may be eligible for. ASCP and NCA are accrediting agencies for Medical Technologists and may offer some opportunities. Medical facilities may offer part-time opportunities in the lab for students. These jobs are excellent for a resource, and you may even have the opportunity to do your internship there. This will give you a big leg up. After you finish, there are many opportunities for full, part-time, and extra work. Jobs are available in all 50 states.
Aside from scholarships consider any available government, or loan programs. I know folks hate student loans, but you do what you have to do. Good luck!
