because many teens have no respect for others

If most "old people" are grouchy when you deal with them, the common factor is you. So - what are you doing to get them grouchy? What are those interactions usually about?

We frequently host a bunch of my teen daughter's friends for a few days at a time, and take them out shopping or to a movie. They get along well with people of all ages, and my partner and I very seldom need to "run interference" at all. I don't think that's limited to my girl and her friends.

So - if you want to avoid the grouchiness, how about trying to meet us half-way on whatever provokes it?

Damn! Who the hell says they are grouchy?!

Hahaha! It could be just the usual communication gap between the generations. The teens expect the oldsters to look at them with a judgmental attitude, the oldsters expect the teens to have a flippant attitude. It just takes a little time and I think someone who has real desire to get to know each other to get something going.

It is worth it! It you are a teen, give it a try. You won't be sorry. I guarantee you, talking with a grouchy old person will soon be one of the things you will always remember the most, when you become on of those..."grouchy old people" yourself!

Some people just get self-important when they get old. For all their lives, they have been listening to phrases such as "With age comes wisdom" and "Revere your elderly." Now, it is true that, as we go through life, we learn new things and in general get a little smarter as time goes by. But respect is something that should be earned. If the old people are going to jump to a hasy conclusion about a teen without even getting to know that teen, then they deserve no respect. Yes, some teens are loud and disrespectful, but not all. Each of them is an individual person with personality traits that set him or her apart from the others. So, if some older person is not going to give an individual teen a chance to set him or herself apart as an individual, then that old person does not deserve your (or anybody's) time of day. Period.

By the way, contrary to what some other answerers have said, this is not a laughable and stupid question.

some senior citizens (if that's who u are talking about) are cranky in general, its not because you are a teen, they are cranky the same with everyone. Its probably because either they hate life or there angry about something. Trust me i have gone to a 90's year old's house before which she was my great grandma which my grandpa and grandma were taking care of her and i was a teenager at the time and she was more mean and grouchy to my grandma then to anyone else there. (she was jealous of my grandma for being with her son) trust me its not cuz you are a teen unless u provoked something.

depends on what you consider old, remember older people were young once too, sometimes they forget how its like to be a teen.sometimes they are grouchy because they have alot of health problems, or maybe their lonely.

Because most teens do not have any manners and do not respect the seniors or anyone else for that matter. They are only concerned with themselves.

Because most of what you say and do is garbage. I know it is hard to believe but if you print this out and reread it when you are 35 you will see how laughably stupid you were.
