How do you get glass off 8x10 photo?

While changing a picture frame I found a 3 inch area stuck. I can't ruin photo and don't want to put it in water like I heard might work. Any ideas would educate me and be appreciated!

Take a long wooden match, or put the picture frame over a gas stove, and gently heat it a safe distance from the heat source. As you heat it, (your fingers should not feel to hot to hold it, but they should feel the heat), gently turn the picture in clockwise and counter-clockwise motions, being careful not to tear the picture. This should loosen it sufficiently.
