After years of a similar problem with normal iron levels I have just found out that my B12 is too low. I am getting B12 shots under a doctor's supervision. Ask your doctor about it.

Good luck.

If your hemoglobin and hematocrit are low but your iron is normal you probably have a microcytic anemia. They are probably running tests to make sure that your iron levels are staying up because they could easily drop. hemoglobin is important for getting oxygen in the body and carbon dioxide out. The hematocrit is a paked red blood cell volume. It means they take blood, spin it, and see how much of it is red cells. There are a lot of problems that can be caused from low hgb/hct levels. Just trust in what your doctor is doing and ask lots of questions. The doctor is paid to take care of you AND to answer your questions.

There are many reasons for anemia other than iron deficiency. I am sure your doctor has ruled out the common ones. I have a slight anemia for several years apparently just because of my age and my bone marrow not working hard.
