I am not a boy. I am a 24 year old woman and I can tell you from my own experience.
When I was 12, I totally stop respecting my parents and did what I want to do without caring about how they feel. I was that way because my friends had parents that were much more lenient and nice than them and I felt that I had it the worse and that they weren't making my life easier on purpose. Even before age 12, I never really care about how they feel but then I at least had some respect towards them. But it disappeared when I was 12.
Even when I was in college, I didn't really pay too much attention to them nor did I respect them much, although I was still living under their roof. But after I graduated from college at age 21 and go out to the real world and work, I started to respect them for the first time in my life. That is when I started to know about people in this world.
So I don't think there is an age when teenagers respect their parents again. It is what they go through, like what I did. I met other parents who were worse than my parents 100 times. When teenagers go out to the real world and see many things and people, they will begin to appreciate what they have, which was what I did. To my experience, I didn't have it really bad that I thought I did. I had it way too easy compared to most kids in this world. It was only that my friends had many leeways that I didn't.
So for those parents with teenagers that disrespect them and feel that they have it the worse, tell them: "there are many kids that had it much harder than you do. For instance, ....." Afterwards, they will understand very soon how easy they had it.

Every family is different, but typically boys start respecting their parents again when they get closer to graduating from high school. Or at whatever point they start thinking about making their own way in the world, and not just rebelling against their parents.

its more about how did they respect their parents before they were teens because before they were teens if they respected their parents during their teens they may only test their parents for a brief time then find themselves again. but if they were rude before their teens watch out, you may want to really seek help so that you can begin to have a relationship during this time in their lives when they are becoming independent adults.

Children should always respect their parents. They are never too young to learn that. They shouldnt wait till they're teenagers to do that. In some cases if they have no respect for their parents by that age it's too late.

I saw a show on Tv about the development of the brain in teenage boys..it was a very good show!
The problems some teenagers have..has to do with the development of the frontal? cortex?
some of there reactions are apparently a part of the process of the growth of this area of the brain-some develop more slowly and this may explain the behavior of boys in this age group

Depends on the kids, the parents, and their relationship.
Personally, I never didn't (sorry for the double-negative) respect my parents because I always understood how much they sacrificed for me and my sister.
Now, that's not to say that we never fought or always got along...'cause Lord knows that we didn't. However, my parents' and my relationship was based on trust and respect and we always seemed to be able to get through the difficult times with our mutual respect intact.

When they start to grow up. For some 16 or 17 others it is much later 19 or 20. The less mature they are, the later it happens.

See it depends on you as the parent and how you treat your child now giving them what they want isn't going to get you to get respect for him! What you need to do is loosen up and being the nice guy you need to show your son that he can't get away with the way he acts for instance he says something smart to you then take away one of his precious items like music or his guitar or hanging out with friends until he changes. And if he keeps acting up continue taking his stuff away from him where he is just stuck at home and he can't go anywhere or talk to anyone then he will start showing it. Believe me it will work! You just need to be hard on him and show him that he can't get away with what he is doing.

When they grow up and can gain respect for them by understanding what it is like being a parent. For some it comes quickly. For others it never happens.
