Right is NOT doing any harm to others; wrong is doing harm to others.

Don't remember who said it (could have been George Bernard Shaw) but the quote was: "When you remove God, you remove the standard." That's why so many Christians are on their own crusade against the liberals -- they don't want God removed from our society. We're already seeing what happens when God is removed -- criminals are being coddled, victims and law enforcement personnel are being treated like criminals, our elected leaders engage in all kinds of illegal, immoral, or unethical behavior and nobody says or does anything about it (Geez, it's like it's expected nowadays), corporate CEOs and CFOs bilk people out of billions of dollars and get slapped on the wrist, if they get punished at all; but worst of all, the liberals are trying to tell us that right and wrong is a personal decision, meaning we as individual human beings don't have to consider the life, welfare, or opinions of anyone else when we decide -- Hey, I guess that means I can kill anyone who pisses me off and it's OK, right? I think I'll start by offing the liberals who came up with this stupid idea...

Shakespeare wrote that there is nothing good or evil, but thinking makes it so. I think that that is a very profound statement if one contemplates it awhile.

In nature, one creature's agony and destruction are another creature's livelihood. Nature is neither cruel nor kind, merely ambivalent.

To adhere to Society's definitions of right and wrong is foolishness. It is ALWAYS politically motivated. One must learn to not believe anything one hears but merely take it into consideration when looking for the raw truth of the matter. Ultimately, you alone are the decider of what is right and wrong.

God exists

actually i think that if God doesn't exist (God DOES exist) then there is no right or wrong to people... and porn would be good and murder would be good and rape would be good... becuz there is no good or wrong... anything is ok to do.

But that's not how it really is... Society needs rules... if there aren't any, then we'll be living in hell. i know sum people think that we already are in hell, cuz of the wars... and deaths... and crashes and terrors, but this is NOTHING to hell. HELL is a lot worse than earth... so if u believe in Jesus you'll be in heaven finally relaxing and taking that terror away, with the people who died innocently living in peace if they chose christ. for those who don't care about christ will take take their punishment... but they have many chances to repent and take Christ. so those who go to hell, had many chances or at least one chance to take Jesus... if they didn't choose him they chose wrong... they made the BIGGEST mistake of their life... and they r paying for it in hell, where God is NOT their father... the father of lies is, (the devil) and he is one bad guy...

There must be some order for any scociety to function...If it is decided that cutting off peoples heads in the most horrible manner is ok...then it is right. Without a higher authority any individual or group may make their own right and wrong.

It should be wrong to charge$5 for popcorn in theaters... who is with me?

Right and wrong are not solely determined by the code of conduct detailed in The 10 Commandments, which I assume you must be addressing given your reference to God. In fact, The Code of Hammurabi created in 1780 B.C. in Mesopotamia, was the first set of laws ever written. It detailed right and wrong for the people of that time and set out rules and punishments if those rules were broken. Now, having said that...

Hammurabi did not believe that he was deity like later royalty believed was their "divine right." He did believe, however, that writing a code of law and behavior was necessary in order to please his "gods." Notice how that is plural?

The code itself is huge and dealt with every aspect of life at that time. Legal issues springing from theft, women's rights, agriculture, rights of slaves, etc., were covered in the code.

Does this help to answer your question regarding taking it back to recorded human history?

This is what Buddha said about 500 years before your god existed:

To refrain from taking life.
To refrain from taking that which is not freely given (stealing).
To refrain from sensual misconduct (improper sexual behavior, gluttony etc.)
To refrain from incorrect speech (lying, harsh language, slander, idle chit-chat).
To refrain from intoxicants which lead to loss of mindfulness.

It's sad that you can't figure out right from wrong without a god. do not lose your religion, for humanities sake.

God's Way is right, everything else is wrong.

You turn things upside down,
as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!
Shall what is formed say to him who formed it,
"He did not make me"?
Can the pot say of the potter,
"He knows nothing"?

(Isa 29:16)

If God did not exist, what is right is that in your quest for life, you would do no harm to others, because to harm another would be wrong.
