I babysit for my sister practically for free and I have no other source of income. So I get up one morning(I overslept) and my father, who always sides with my sister said I was heartless and rude for not letting her know ahead of time that I would sleep late. How was I suppose to predict that I would not hear my alarm clock? So now my sister has a "friend" watching my niece and for some reason I feel guilty. I always go through this stage of my father and sister taking sides and making me feel like crap.Okay, so I was a little groggy when I told her that I have to get ready before walking over to her house, maybe I sounded upset, but am I really a bad guy here, or is it something deeper?

It was irresponsible to oversleep and not hear the alarm clock and yet those things do occur even with the most responsible people. You may feel like you let her down and yet she should not put the pressure on you to watch her kid. She can find a friend or sitter like everyone else in the world and be thankful to you when she doesn't have to pay for a sitter. Tell her to quit whinning and your father to stop picking sides or he can watch his grandchild while you do more productive things. Perhaps get a real job or have a life. Sounds like they are making you feel guilty over something YOU were doing as a favor!

Some times peolpe over sleep. It is hard to baby sit for family because you have to be perfct when you do. My sister did the same thing with me when I watched her daughter. She did not like what I did one day and then she got this wothless baby sitter that took drugs like oxycotton and she looked like she came from the trailer park down the street. The women was no good in the end because she got my siter addicted to the pills and she almost over doesed and ended up in the hospital. My sister thought she had a good baby sitter. I would not trust that women with my dog. After all this my sister was so hooked on the drugs that she would give tthis lady money and her credit cards. The lady and her husband ran up the credit cards and spent all kinds of money at least 200,000. If she wanted to give that kind of money away I would of taken it.

Here is the deal...if you had an agreement to be up and babysitting for your sister at a certain time then it is just like any other job. You have a responsibility and you didn't live up to it. You should feel guilty and you were in the wrong.

if your the oldest child, then all the pressure will be put on you. usually a father will take the side of the *younger* child. it's nothing personal. but if you really want to do something about it. i would ask your father to sit down and talk about it without him getting mad about what ever you say. sometimes it's just better to get it out into the open.

Sounds alot like the time my supervisor called me at home to see if I was coming to work (already 20 min. late)... I groggily answered the phone saying "Damn it, I'll be there as soon as possible, my alarm didn't go off." Then when I actually got to work he says "If you're going to be late, you really should let someone know"... HUH??

I really don't think you're "the bad guy", you're just human, and God knows, ALL humans were created the same, so what I would do if it were me, is appeal to their compassion as fellow humans, voice a genuine apology, ask for a hug, or just give a hug....who can stay angry at that ?!! Love Conquers All ! xoxo

Seems pretty shallow of them. If that is exactly how it happened then you have nothing to feel guilty about. Mistakes happen and people should let it go.

If this happens a lot then you are wrong. If this is the exception rather than the rule then they are overreacting.

Of course you were being irresponsible and you should just acknowledge that. If you get defensive, that just makes them trust you less.
