There's tons of bus tours of Dublin to get a feel for the city. Then see the Book of Kells in the Long Library at Trinity College which is dead in the centre of Dublin.
I'd opt for a visit to Newgrange
(http://www.knowth.com/newgrange.htm), about 1 hour north of Dublin. It has a cuniform tomb that was built at the time of the druids and pre-dates the pyramids. Or Glendalough (http://www.glendalough.connect.ie/), about an
hour south which is in Wicklow which itself is a lovely part of Ireland.
Recommended pubs, off the tourist track:
The Porterhouse. Parliament St. A brew pub; makes some great beers.
The Porterhouse Central. Nassau St. As above.
Some Literary pubs:
Davy Byrnes on South Anne Street.
The Brazen Head
The Long Hall on Georges Street- All these were mentioned in James Joyce's Ulyssees
Mulligan’s on Poolbeg Street. Former haunt of Brendan Behan, Flan O'Brien and JB Yeats
Also:
Nearys on Chatham St
Keoghs on South Anne St
The big tourist thing to do is to vist the Guinness Storehouse at St James Gate and have a pint in their panoramic bar. Also the Jameson Whiskey Brewery on Whiskey Corner- Do the tour and get a whiskey appreciators certificate.
Plan for "soft" weather and bring rain gear. Or buy an umbrella when you get there...more than likely you'll need one! Enjoy your visit!

Dublin, Ireland or Dublin, California?
Dublin, Ireland: if going for the first time, check out the Temple bar - loads of pubs and restaurants. Find online some great clubs to go to. Have fun!

I went this weekend. Best place to go is the Guinness Storehouse. Brill views of Dublin and a free pint of Guinness At the top...
And you do still get the paperweights at entry.

Go to the Guiness brewery, do the tour, go to the pub at the top and have a a 'free' pint. If you still get the Guiness paperwights as tickets on entry, keep them put them on ebay and some American will buy them for loads of money and it pays for you tour. Win win situation.
