Anytime, I start clipping my puppies' nails when they are one week old and do it every week.

Clip them now. Get him/her used to it as a baby, so then you won't have trouble when the puppy grows up.

Just be careful not to clip them too short, because you'll hit the quick of the nail, the puppy will shriek, and it will bleed like mad. Have someone help you hold the puppy, 'cause he'll wiggle. Usually if you clip it just where it starts to curve, that's a good place.

Good luck!

You can clip them yourself but use a heavy duty nail clipper. Make sure you have good lighting and only cut the CLEAR part. if you see pink that is skin in the nail and DO NOT CUT THE PINK. Its best to trim the sharp end from point to a square tip so they wont be so sharp. That is the safest way. Or take him to a vet and for around $8 they can cut them for you.

you can start when they're just a few weeks old, if you're nervous about doing it take them to a groomer or the vet. when they clip the nails ask if they'll show you how to do it, most places have no problem giving you a quick lesson.

We usually start doing ours at 5-6 weeks. The sooner you get them used to it, the easier it is to do them later on. Chihuahua nails grow very fast! Congrats on your new baby!!

When they get long enough. It also depends on how old. i have a chihuahua and since his nails are black we let our vet do it so we dont hurt him. if youre that concerned about him ask your vet.

good luck with the puppy

when they need to be clipped, if it's still a pup, you may just use a little sand paper or emery board and smooth them down. Clipping too much may hurt.

When they get long, but be very careful you don't cut them too short or you might hit a vein and they'll bleed. I take mine to the Vet and let her do it for safety reasons. :)
