Speaking from personal experience I'd avoid chewing gum and toffee. the first thing I did when my braces came off was go and eat lots of toffee :)

I've put some useful links you might want to look look at below in 'sources'.

Hope they help

I have Braces too the foods you cant eat. Avoid:
Chewy foods: bagels, hard rolls, licorice
Crunchy foods: popcorn, ice, chips.
Sticky foods: caramels, gum. I know you can chew freedent
Hard foods: nuts, candy
Foods you have to bite into: corn on the cob, apples, carrots

Chewing on hard things (for example, pens, pencils or fingernails) can damage the braces. Damaged braces will cause treatment to take longer.

You can eat what ever you like except sticky food such as gums, chocalate & so on. These food can stay between the braces and hard to pull them out so doctors recommand not to eat them. I had a braces too so don't worry some doctors will let you know this.

With braces you need to stay away from all sticky, chewy things like carmel, no chewing in ice or gum. Hope that helps a little bit.
