I could not memorize poems or others! Still, I managed to get a double PhD!
So, not memorizing is not a problem to progress, but we need to be able to use our resources, including brain, promptly!

Learning comes in all shapes and colors, maybe you're not using what works best for your mind. You can try to read things over and over, but not use that works best for you mind to remember., but you shouldn't give up, its repetition that will allow it to sink in. I'm the same way. But I work as a accounts payable and receivable and I can work my way around a lot of stuff wihout reading. I think its probably us kind of people cant stand waiting for the answer. Well at least I can't wait. I have to jump to the parts of a story to know what I'm reading.
