well it has many different kind in mandarin:
Ni how means how r u and if w want to say hi,the pronounciation is same
good morning :zao shawn how
good afternoon:zhone wu how
good evening:whan shawn how
good night:whan ann
good=how
in cantonese
they also use hi for hi
good morning:zousun
how r u :leihou
in china we also say sth like hi when ppl talking in the phone but that will always be: wei?
