If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following:
There would be:
57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 from the Western Hemisphere, north and south
8 Africans
52 would be female
48 would be male
70 would be nonwhite
30 would be white
70 would be non-Christian
30 would be Christian
89 would be heterosexual
11 would be homosexual
6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all 6 would be from the United States.
80 would live in substandard housing
70 would be unable to read
50 would suffer from malnutrition
1 would be near death; 1 would be near birth
1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education
1 would own a computer
When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.

Gosh no these aren't my figures...it makes my head hurt just thinking about doing the math! I don't know where I found it....I have had it saved for quite a while. According to www.snopes.com these stats are out of date...however it doesn't change the intent.

I don't know where you got your calculations but it is an interesting thought. I agree we need more acceptance & understanding of each other as human beings regardless of gender, race, religion, etc. Interesting question!

Of course, every body deserves a good education and a healthy standard of life, but that's not how capitalism (and we live on a largely capitalistic planet) works. People may be created equal but they do not end up equal, and in order for somebody to be 500 times above the average income level (think celebrities) 500 other people have to be below it.
Distributing wealth equaly is a very nice idea, but does not work. I have no problem with communisim as a theory, but numerous communist experiments have show us that, in practice, it is ineffective.
People will donate to charity efforts, but never enough to really acheive the kind of equality you're talking about. Deep down inside his/herself, every affluent person knows that the higher the poor rise, the farther they fall.

Good thoughts there and something to think about.
Recently I saw an article about the cost of living. The wages were reported in the time it takes to earn a McDonalds Big Mac.
There are places in this world that it takes nearly 2 hours of work to afford to have one, while in the US it takes less than 13 minutes of labor.
For me that was just as sobering to think that I can purchase 8 Big Macs an hour, while there are some people around the world that can barely afford half that many a day.

What becomes glaringly apparent is not a need for acceptance, for to accept is to say that all of the above is acceptable. What becomes apparent is that the rest of the world needs to up the ante and make themselves better off like we did in America. It isn't impossible, several nations have done so in the last 100 years. Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, post-war Germany, Israel, etc.

Do you suppose that if more of the 80 had nice housing and more of the 70 could read and write, that they'd be less likely to become terrorists?
By the way, here is the Snopes critique of this analysis:

This just struck me as a very arrogant statistic. (Not a reflection on you though.)
Why does white have to be the measuring stick? Why not say x black, x non-black? Or x anything BUT white?
Things that make you go huh.

"Immortality" by utilising employing Milan Kundera. I study his novel "The insufferable Lightness of Being" a whilst decrease back and that i individually enjoyed it. "Immortality" is quite diverse from that one yet although an quite reliable e book. i'm indoors the process it suitable now. It tremendously weaves on an identical time the previous and the present and strikes between the two. There are fictional characters as nicely as historic people like Goethe, his important different, Hemingway, Napolean. And it extremely is a exhilaration to hearken to them communicate. And Kundera acknowledges himself by using utilising fact the narrator of the unconventional and subject concerns approximately his certainly life indoors the unconventional. as with each and every Kundera novel, the concentration is far much less on the plot on greater on the philosophical techniques and social techniques that he conveys by utilising utilising his characters. I unquestionably propose this e book.

I would interested in knowing if this is your own calculations or from another source? Scientifically produced, or theorized by you? Just curious...
Either way, the intent and conclusion has merit.
