Man has been inventing religions and gods for thousands of years, many of which have lasted thousands of years but eventually died out : sun worship, moon worship, ocean worship, star worship, Egyptian religion, Inca religion, Aztec religion, Maya religion, Native American religion, Greek religion, Roman religion, Aboriginal religion, African tribal religions, mono theistic religions, Maori religion etc etc.

Why are the current crop of manmade gods any different.
Their main advantage seems to be that improved worldwide centuries over the centuries have enabled them to spread far and wide.
But will this be enough to save them from extinction like all the other religions that have been and gone ?

You also forgot to point out that all all modern religions use aspects from those now extinct ones...everything from the virgin births to resurrection was already used in those religions. Buddhism is the only real unique one in the bunch.

Yes, all gods eventually die when no one worships them anymore. For a fictional treatment of what happens to an unworshiped god, read Small Gods by Terry Pratchett.
However, pagans continue to worship a lot of those old gods you listed. I think it takes a god a very long time indeed to totally fade away.
I see and understand the atheist's point of view, but I can't see humanity switching as a whole any time soon.

Here's hoping. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that humanity as a whole eventually gets a clue that religion is not needed for moral behavior and the whole species'll finally give up on the old tradition of making up gods for every need.
