There's this guy that I met in school, we hit it off and got feelings for eachother...the problem is that he's moving away to go to another college, we will be farther apart. recently we just spoke to eachother and it turns out that we both have feelings that are more than friendship.......When I asked him what he wants to do he said that he doesn't want to rush into a relationship because we are too far away.....DO LONG DISTANCE RELATIONS EVER WORK, if so.....HOW???????.......smart responses please!!

Long distance depends on the foundation of the existing relationship. If you have developed a strong bond, distance will only be a minor obstacle. It sounds by his response that the foundation may not be there.

I can answer this because I'm in a long distance relationship, it all has to do with communication. You both have to communicate with the other and be open and honest. Whether you write, e-mail, phone or what other form you might use. I see him once a month and I usually talk to him on the phone everyday and we write each other often, actually almost everyday as well.

Communication is the key to any relationship, no matter how close or how far.

normally high school to college relationships don't work out. college is very different from high school, and there is just so much to try out...having a significant other can kindof take away from the experience.

BUT

during the summer before i went to college i met a guy and started dating him pretty seriously...it wasn't like a high school relationsihp at all. hedidn't drive...and i couldn't have a car at school because it was my first year. he took the bus from NJ to PA to visit me at college every few weeks, and when i could manage my parents coming out to bring me back i did. we were pretty faithful to eachother and it worked out really well until he moved out of the country.

unfortunately, this is the exception. i would not really recommend it, but making a distance relationship can work. you have to realize, its not just distance that's not working in your favor, its also the difference between high school and college.

my current boyfriend just graduated from the college i go to and is now moved in to his apartment near his grad school. you can call me dumb for this, but he's in FL and i'm still in PA...he flies up every month or so to see me. yup, he loves me that much.

distance relationships are difficult...they hurt. they just plain hurt. if he doesn't knwo what he wants, chances are he could end up being unfaithful..so don't force him. but if you two are both serious, you could be very happy.

good luck!

Yes. Technology helps. Emails, text messages, telephone, air travel.
