If your serious, keep a prayer journal, write down what you have prayed each and every day. I have done this and when I flip back through the pages I am reminded of all the prayers God answered and thankful in hindsight that He didn't give me some of the things I asked for.

True. It's not worth the bother. Many studies have shown that prayer just doesn't work, except perhaps as a placebo. One man with a shovel can do more good than a million people praying.
And from a theologic point of view, it doesn't make sense either. If you believe that your god has a "perfect plan" for everybody, then you are either asking him to change that perfect plan or asking him to do what he was going to do anyway.
But it makes people feel like they're doing something good, so they do it.

I agree! Why bother? You're talking to yourself. Now, that can be very useful and productive. A lot of personal issues can be resolved through what many religious people believe to be prayer. However, I simply don't believe that anyone other than you is listening.

I'm not a Christian (( I'm Wicca )) but wether or not you pray is I suppose a matter of personal opinion ... in my religion I belive we all go to the same place no matter what we do in life becuse when we commit evil deeds (( sins )) we have karmatic repercusions, so we don't necisarily have to pray for forgivness ... some people feal better with prayer, others it dose nothing for ... so basicly, do what ever you feal is best in this matter (( sorry ... i've probly been of very little help ... LOL ))

It is a comfort to many. If people are wrong and there is no god, what harm can prayer do if it comforts them? I pray, not the the Christian god, but it is my belief that prayers go to the same place.

Because its fun! like when you blow out your birthday candles and make a wish, or throw a penny in a fountain, or really really want that shiny new red tricycle with streamers on the handles. Oh golly prayer is, how do you say? THE BOMB! Its like talking to yourself without having to...well, actually its just like talking to yourself. I'll leave it at that.

If you dont' ask, then you won't recieve. That's what Jesus said. It's in the asking that we affirm our faith that God is there and listening. He won't answer prayers that would later cause us harm. You'd be surprised by how He will answer. You should try it. Try praying that He'd make Himself known to you today. You might be surprised. It can change your life.

Prayer emboldens the spirit. It gives a new perspective. It heals and makes one humble.
