Head Start is a preschool program for children ages 3-5. You need to contact your local school district to get information on how to get enrolled. The classes are set up to help children with disabilities first, then children from disadvantaged/minority backgrounds. They also base your payments on a sliding income scale, so the preschool class may be free to little charge.

Head start has been loosely well-defined here with one exception:

toddlers are generally too young for head-start as these programs are designed for the year before your child is eligible to attend kindergarten (mostly for 4 year olds). Semantics are useless as the exact parameters of toddlerhood are unclear; however, if your child is younger than 4, he or she will not be able to attend headstart yet.

Head Start is a program that is designed to help children to learn.

It was primarily started to benefit minorities.

Save your money.

Many University studies have shown it does absolutely no good.

By the time a child who went through Head Start gets to the 5th or 6th grade,
he is no better off than one who did not experience Head Start.

These studies compensated for the background of the children involved.

This type of answer, while accurate, will no doubt generate a multitude of "HATE LETTERS" and cries for "Sources".

Since I have no desire to do peoples research for them, these people can go poop in their hats.
