to say the sentence "I don't understand" in italian, do you say "Non ho capito" or "Non capisco" and could you explain the difference between the two (i think one is past tense or something) please help thx

"Non capisco" is present tense, "non ho capito" is past tense. You can use both. You use "non capisco" for the present only, and "non ho capito" for both present and past. Hope this helps.

Non ho capito is the present perfect (I haven't understood)
Non capisco is the present (I don't understand)
In Italian you use the first one after a person has finished speaking because you didn't understand what he has JUST said.
You use the second one when you are still elaborating what the other is talking about

Just say "Non capisco". "Non ho capito" means I didn't understand

"Non ho capito" means" I have not understood."
"Non capisco" means "I do not understand."

i think non capisco is the right form, but i can't explain it.

I think the first one is " I don't understand" and the second one is " I don't get it"
