I think a medium is supposed to communicate directly with spirits and a clairvoyant is someone who has psychic powers who can see the future

You have received your quota of idiot answers, now this one is genuine. A medium is the link between this world and the next.
Those who have said mediums talk to the dead are wrong. The dead know nothing. Their spititual being does, and that's the one that survives death. As, has been said, a clairvoyant can see past, present and future events. Some with greater clarity than others.

Yes and no. A clairvoyant may not be able to control what happens to them. Whereas a medium tries to connect themselves. But both are basically the same as in what they are doing... trying to see (or hear) into the future.

A medium is a person (as their name suggests) who has a connection with dead people or spirits from other worlds. A clairvoyant (as their name suggests) is someone who can "see" the future, or is sensitive through premonition to events that have happened in the past.

As I understand it a medium 'channels' other spirits information. The spirit 'talks through' them. In other words, they are the medium by which the spirit communicates.
A clairvoyant sees or otherwise senses something that is happening somewhere else in the moment and there isn't necessarily another 'spirit' involved.

a medium is someone who speaks with spirit
the term clairvoyant can apply to a medium or a psychic .. the name means clear seeing
so if a medium posses the ability to clearly see spirit they are clairvoyant
if a psychic is clairvoyant they are able to see clearly the auric impression or images surrounding their client
it does not mean seeing into the future .. it means simply seeing clearly
clairaudience means clear hearing
clairsentient means clear sensing ( feeling )

Clairvoyants are more common, mediums aren't seen as much. That is where the expression "Medium rare" came from.

touch, smell & taste.
but normally they dont communicate just say what they see etc,
A medium can do most of the above and also communicate
