I tried to reformat drive but it would not let me. Someone put windows xp on my older gateway laptop and there is not enough memory or HD space to support such a large OS. Could someone help me install win 98 over xp. I was told that it could be done through MS Dos. If so could you tell me step by step on how to do this? Much appreciate it.

You have to delete the existing partition (destroying ANY data on the drive) and recreate a FAT32 partition that Win98 can install on. The XP install is probably using NTFS on the C: drive which is not seen at all by Windows 98.

What in the world would you want win 98 again for?? I'd get a hard drive expansion.. 98 sucks, and it doesn't support many functions that XP does.
