Tonsillitis is the condition not the cause. But yes what ever is causing it can be given to you...

Especially if it turns out to be Strept throat

tonsilitis is contageous. You can get it from eating or drinking after the person or coming into contact with their saliva. If someone has it they should be on antibiotics. The antibiotics normally wipe it out pretty quick but you should avoid contact for at least the first three days of antibiotics. The tonsills are a lymph gland and they tend to trap bacteria. When they are overloaded they get inflammed because of all of the bacteria thus the name tonsil for tonsils itis for inflammation.

Is your boyfriend on anitbiotics? If he is on antibiotics for 5 or 6 days before you see him, you probably won't get it. If it is a virus causing the infection, he shouldn't be on antibiotics, and you might get it. The only thing you can do is not kiss him, and do lots of handwashing.

Depends on if it's a viral or bacterial infection.
