Come to North Wales.
I get chased by loads of dogs as I pass the farms round here. They make a mess of my paintwork all the time.
By this I mean jumping round my STILL vehicle, not splatting on it.
In my Legacy estate I can outrun them if I'm carefull.
In my Subaru sooty van I can't outrun them and have to yell at them, or just wait.
I triy to outrun a border terrier in my Subaru sooty van and to my shame I cant get up a steep hill as fast as the dog. It's scary because the dog is so small I always loose sight of it, end up panicking and pull up.
I've never outrun that little buger in my van. It's a nice dog though

Because most towns now have leash laws that requre a dog to be either kept in a fenced yard or if it is outside the yard to be on a leash with its master or mistress. Failure to do this can get you a ticket by the local cops which in the State I live in for instance is $200 fine, so it is a real incentive to keep ones dog from chasing cars down the street!

Because apparently people where you live have gotten a clue and started leashing and containing their dogs behind fences!
Where I used to live, though dogs wandering around in the middle of the road and/or chasing cars is still a common occurance.

A dog that chases a car will often get run over by cars following the target car. Thus there are less car-chasing hounds around.

It's not even about the dogs and leash laws anymore.. It's about people. People aren't the same anymore. I remember when evryone in the nieghborhood would help eachother watch out for their kids and homes. Now it's considered as being nosey. Instead of people coming to tell you in person if they are having a problem with you they call the police or parking authority or whomever... It's a shame.

the leash law put a stop to most of it. there are still some dog owners that ignore the law and let their dogs run free. these are the dogs you usually see lying in the road, killed by a car. i would have a heart attack if i ever saw my dog chasing a car, knowing that any minute he could be under the wheel.

With advances and improvements in modern education, dogs have become far more sophisticated than before, and no longer enjoy such lowbrow pastimes as chasing cars.
More and more lately, dogs can be seen at Starbucks drinking lattes and doing the Times crossword puzzle. At least until they are able to drive and then they will have to get cars of their own.

Because dog owners are more resposible now and do not let their dogs go roaming on their own, so there are no dogs to chase the cars

Because times have changed and the dogs have found that if they stand on the corners the cars will pull along side them.

well that pub where the dogs play cards and pool, as so often depicted in pictures on many a pubs walls, is actually in Deptford, South East London - as I understand it, it all started in 1972 and had something to do with when John Pertwee took over as Doctor Who from William Hartnell.
