My daughter has been asked to attend the USMC 'birthday ball' in November 2006. Her date/escort is wearing his USMC dress blues. What color dress do you suggest she wear? We were thinking possibly the scarlet red of the uniform pants strip or a soft gold. It is very formal and she wants to wear long gloves as well.

What color compliments her skin tone the best? If she washes out with Red or Gold, I wouldn't recommend either. She will be more stunning if she chooses the style and color that will compliment her. The Marine will look good no matter what. Have fun.

The Scarlet Red

whatever color she looks better in, as long as the dress is tasteful. I personally look like crap in Red, so for the Navy Birthday Ball, I wear Earth tones like dark greens, blues or browns, even though my husband is in Dinner Mess Dress Blues.

Of course she can NEVER go wrong witha little black dress. maybe she could incorporate some of the Marine colors into her jewellry, shoes and wrap? A Black dress with a shimmery gold wrap and some gold strappy heels would probably have her Marine(and most of the others in the room) paying her close attention...

Those colors sound great. She is so lucky. My father was a Marine and he and my mother went to those all the time. I have always wanted to go to one. What size does she wear? I have a nice one that is scarlet red with a mesh black over it that I have only worn once. I have been wanting to sell it. It is very Beautiful. It comes with a scarf also. If you are interested it is size 10 or 12. My Email is gin_jackson@yahoo.com if you want some pictures.

Speaking as a Marine myself, is this an officer or enlisted man? That will dictate the attire to be worn. Enlisted parties are a little more casual than officer parties, but it's personal preference. My dates would wear ball gowns, cocktail dresses, mini skirts, it depends on the individual. Color coordination isn't that important, after all it's a party.

I think the soft gold. The gold will blend and look nice with his uniform. The red would stand out. I hope she has a good time.

White or gold is very nice. Scarlet of the pants represents the BLOOD spilt to keep our country FREE!

Please don't do any tones of RED?! No, not pink, either... Save it for the wedding...

Check out a USMC website, http://usmc.mil is one. http://www.tecom.usmc.mil/mcub/library/MCUR/URCH2.htm#UR2001

I think the red is the best choice myself. It would match great with the uniform.

I would go with the red or maybe white. I would stay away from blue or black as she will just get drowned out.
