recycled products, like notebook and loose leaf paper? Or paper made from alternative sources? I'm trying to teach my 6 year old daughter about conserving our environment. She loves to draw and write little books, and I love that she is so creative, but she uses so much paper. I would love to find some paper for her that is more environmentally friendly. Thanks!

I don't have many choices as far as shopping, I'm living overseas (military family). The PX doesn't carry recycled products. That's why I want an internet site.

Since you are "overseas" - i.e. not in the continental USA, in an unspecified country - the environmental consequences of shipping shipping recycled paper from the USA (fuel consumption) may outweigh the environmental benefits. Unless the recycled paper is available in the local economy, it might be desirable to just emphasis "not wasting" at this time and teach the recycling when you return to the USA.

Try The Paper Mart in Commerce, California. They sell recycled newsprint in Big rolls and they can ship it to you. Our youngest was very artistic from an early age and she would make all sorts of imaginative things with paper. She put a sign on her bedroom door when she was about 6 that said "Vanessa's Paper Factory". She would cut and paste and color and fold for hours. She made her own cellphone out of paper. I would find little pieces of paper cut in weird shapes with drawings and stuff on them all over the house. Now she is a cosmetologist. She can cut and color hair to her hearts content. Who would have thought.

What happens when she starts feeling guilty as to using too much paper especially when the tree hugging paper is not to be found, what then?
You can teach her the same values by recycling any scrap paper she may create. Its the thought that counts and I sure would not endanger her creativity based on the type of paper she uses.

I know Office Depot has 100% recycled paper. They also have cheaper 35% recycled paper in large packages.

Buy her a notebook computer and teach her how to use it. There are a lot of photo editing programs that are easy to use. I bet paint shop pro would keep her busy for hours. Buy her a cheap digital camera. This could be a lesson for you both. You could see the world through your daughters eyes.

Go to a printing store- they always make mistakes and throw the paper away. Tell them to save it for you. Also a lot of businesses toss away tons of paper. That way you are teaching to recycle other people's paper.
