I'd like to build up my upper body by swimming as i can't lift weights due to injury. How many lengths, how fast and how many times per week should i swim to do this? Thanks!

Fast results 1000 breath strokes a day for a month and then it will come thats what I did. Seems impossible, but don't give up.

It will do you good to swim 4/5 times per week for aerobic fitness. This will also build muscular endurance in the upper and lower body. Without knowing your current fitness level, I cannot say how easy this will be for you, but remember it is a target, not a starting point. Your swimming should be at a pace that leaves you out of breath and (again as a target) should last for around 30minutes.
I am not sure why you can't lift weights, perhaps you need to do some rehab. It is unusual that you cannot lift any weights at all. however, assuming that this is the case, you need to look at doing some water based resisitance work. There is now a huge range of underwater resistance kit available for you to use. It takes the form of foam dumbells and foam boxing gloves etc. and you use them to create drag in the water. This is the only way you will actually build the upper body up. I've stuck a link below which gives a limited range but there is loads more out there. JP Lennard do a much bigger range but they don't show it on their website. You can also use paddles (which give arm resistance) and tow bags which create drag. You need to do this sort of training 2-3 times per week. The good thing about water resistance is it is suitable for everone regardless of age, ability, injury, strength as you can make it as easy or as hard as you like. It does need to be quite hard to actually build muscle, but go at your own pace and build up gradually

Good luck

I would say you have to build up on laps because if yo0u are just starting, you are not going to be able to do a lot to begin with. A good swimming exercise to build your upper body is to hold a kick board with your legs and only use your upper body for lengths. Speed does not matter, it is a matter of consistency. You need to keep it going, don't stop if possible. This way it will also build endurance and burn calories!

i've got chanced on that doing loads of go stroke with out utilising your legs will build your top hands somewhat immediately notwithstanding in case you swim purely a pair of situations a week, swim at your person p.c... Swiim untill you start to sense it then purely a splash longer and you will development up your endurance aas you bypass. you have got super shoulder muscle tissue before long and be swimming quicker and farthur good away. to construct your chest attempt the breaststroke with a similar technique. For forearms, i'd advise underwater.
