There are a few tricks to curly hair. Never brush it with anything but your fingers when you want to wear it curly...even when it is wet. When you put your products in, make sure you put them in very evenly, finger comb your hair to make sure you feel it in all parts of your hair.
Now, as far as making your hair look wet and curly...you have to let it air dry. Towel dry your hair so that it is medium damp. First put in a bit of spray on leave in conditioner. Then put the gel in (extra strength) a light amount if you have fine hair more if you have thick hair. Then scrunch it with your hands and clip it up in the scrunch. (scrunching is like wading up a piece of paper) do this without dragging any pieces straight, so you may have to use 4 or 5 clips. Keep it in clips til it is mostly dry. Just before you pull the clips out use a light amount of spritz on the clipped pieces. Pull the clips out, fluff and go. EASY. People love my hair this way.
I am assuming you either have naturally curly hair or a perm. This wont work on straight hair.

Water. That really is the only thing I can think of. I have the same problem, that's why I don't use hair products. Have you considered a perm? You could carry a very small water sprayer in your purse to wet it as it dries. (Think trial size pump hairspray). If you absolutely must use gel, get a good deep conditioner. I like Pantene Pro V Intensive Treatment. It is a treatment conditioner, but I use it everytime I wash my hair. I straighten my hair with a blow dryer and straightening iron, so I need extra conditioning. I really notice a difference. I've tried all of the expensive conditioners and treatments, but none of them seem to work as much as the Pantene.

Gel is disgusting. You WANT your hair to look wet? Hmmmm, not sure why that is but try a styling lotion, curl emhancer, or pomade. Go into a salon and ask them what the recommend. I use Pureology products they make a great product for curly hair.

Well..A trick us girls used at my old school, was to get a bottle of mousse and squirt loads into our hands and put it into our hair, you dont need any expensive mousse, tescos value still works! Anyway make sure your hair is completely covered in mousse and use your hands to like ruff your hair up! Your hair will look curly and wet, but also greasy. Even straight hair goes curly! Good Luck!

Try using Curl activators or frizz ease... If that does not work, use conditioning gel (brands like "Let's Jam" or "Smooth & Shine" are good). and if all else fails, and your hair is too frizzy to do without regular gel, that means it's time to get a relaxer to tame the frizz on your curls to achieve that wet look. But before you relax your hair, prep it 2 days in advance with hot oil treatments on both days...

Use a gel that has water as the first ingredient. Most gels contain alcohol which essentially dries out your hair.

I've been using Redkins water wax for years. It makes my semi-natural curly hair curl and stay seperated. But just know it doesnt take much, or it may weigh down.
