They're probably wondering why you can't hand-churn ice cream or chop wood.

The concept of "communicating with machines" is pretty new for most,
realistically the last 35 years. Before then, machines were much more
physical - and much less communicative.

However, to communicate with machines, because they are so stupid,
you have to be extremly exact. Punctuation, spelling, case, etc, all have
to be exactly right - and there is nothing in their experience like that.

Have you ever helped someone like this and told them "Do XXX" and
they said "But that's what I DID"?

That's what they thought they did, but they probably got a character wrong
and it didn't register as important to them - but for you it would be obviously
the thing that caused it to not work.

Its a mind set that kids get at a very early age now - exactness of
instruction. If you don't do exactly the right thing, it won't work.

In another 70 years, virtually everyone alive will have the skillset, at least in
this country.

I have to face the same thing. My mom has a phone and anytime something happens I have to look at it. She can't even understand the dvd player. I think it is because they did not grow up with these things so it is hard for them to understand these devices.

When your parents were young dinosaurs roamed the earth impeding the ability to manufacture electronics. But since zeus(the god of lightning) decided that dinosaurs were a nuciance and zapped them all, people now are able to use electronics more widely. That is why your parents do not understand.

It's not that they can't ...it's just easier to have someone else do it LOL.... I use the same excuse for using the DVD recorder...I become ignorant...to how it works...and someone else pops in the DVD...and I sit back and relax to watch the movie LOL

Your parents grew up in a differnt time than you. They didn't have all the luxuries that we have! We take it for granted, don't we? When you have kids, there will be some new invention and you probably won't be able to figure it out either.

They probably spent too much time keeping you out of jail to have the luxury time to spend learning the technical aspect of all your expensive hobbies.

Parents are too busy sliding into old fart status then they are keeping up with the times.

Society has allowed them to become old farts and not learn anymore. BORING!
