Friend if u have sleeping disorder then pl consult a doctor,.. it needs to be evaluated. meanwhile lots of people have suggested meditation yaoga fresh air etc,.. they are all great options.
Pl do not take these over the counter drugs they may be effective for some days but later u just keep popping and keep complaining that they dont work. sleep problems need to be evaluated by a lot of self-discipline

The best sleeping pill is Rohypnol (also known as roofies). It is however illegal for obvious reasons. Its effect is negated with simultaneous imbibition of alcohol. Rohynol can knock you out for 6-8 hours and has no side effects when you wake up. Thank the American teenage brats for this drug being illegal - they used it mostly for date-rape. As a result those who need it most suffer. This drug is legal in many other countries.

I avoid all forms of medication even though I have severe sleep problems. The best way to combat sleep deprivation is to persist at the following:

1. Establish a daily routine.
2. Exercise daily for at least 30-60 minutes.
3. Eat the right food.
4. Spend some time in meditation in the
morning (about 5 minutes) and also before
you go to bed.
5. Go to bed at the same time each day.
6. Set goals and get your life in order. Although
this is the last point, it is very important.

Being a chronic sleep sufferer, I have found this to work best. Even when I fail to sleep properly, I abstain from medication because after a day (or two or three), I become so exhausted that I finally sleep. It has gotten better for me. Of course I will never get over my sleep problems completely but at least I will not rely on medication.

If you must take medication, try to take it only in severe circumstances, in other words do not develop a dependency.

Truthfully all of the over the counter sleeping pills all have the same sleep agent.....benadryl/dyphenhydramine if you want something by prescription it varies there are many drugs out there some very cheap (like Temazepam) ranging in the 15-20 dollar area to the very expensive (Ambien or Lunesta) at 10-15 dollars a pill!

I find that staying out of bright lights (eg. by reading by candle light) for 30 minutes or so usually does the trick. Also, try to avoid TV and computer for an hour or two before bed.

Valarian root is a nice natural option.

Sleeping pills often reduce the quality of sleep, and can be addictive - be careful with them.

Although there are many different options, the one I've seen used the most in medical practice is called Trazodone. It's only available by prescription but it is an effective medication with an extremely safe profile (very hard to overdose on, very few side effects, no serious drowsiness in the morning). Talk to a Doctor for more information.

Rozerem is the newest and it works for me, plus most doctors are giving samples of it, right now. Ambien- made me hallucinate. Trazodone- also for depression. Lunesta- I've heard that it's good. Melatonin- has been scientifically proven not to do anything, didn't do anything for me. Valerian- natural, but it's also poisonous. Restoril- I've heard it works great. Halcion- pretty strong, as most of people only take 1/2 of a pill. Prosom- I've given it, but the person still didn't go to sleep. Sonata- heard it works alright. Benadryl- if nothing else works, take 2 of these..

There are several good sleep aids on the market. For myself, Ambian is best suited to my needs. Ambian and Lunesta are by prescription only so you must consult a doctor. He may also have other solutions regarding your own personal situation. In any respect though, Ambian and Lunesta are not for long term use. For a quick and easier solution, go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what he recommends.

Tylenol PM is a poor suggestion. Unless you are actually in pain. Otherwise you're just damaging your liver more than you need to. For over-the-counter sleep aids, you can get the sleep ingredient that is in Tylenol PM on it's own. It's called Simply Sleep.

If you are looking for something that doesn't make you feel like a zombie the next morning, try Valerian with melatonin. It's herbal, and doesn't induce the usual grogginess associated with sleeping pills.
