I think so. They crush red beetles to produce red coloring called carmine. They use it in all sorts of food product. I read it a while back but I have found the entire topic too unpleasant for my taste. Pardon the pun:)

This is TRUE apparently, follow the link below to read the rest.

This is not a joke: there are ground up red beetles being used right now as a food coloring ingredient in yogurt, ice cream, juice drinks and many other grocery products. The ingredient is called "carmine."

I don't know specifically for yogurt, but the red food coloring in many, many items does come from a certain kind of beetle that is crushed. True!

maybe in other country's that may be a custom but Yogurt companies in the U.S. have strict guide lines to follow not to say there isnt a something mixed in the yogurt unintintinally ...usually though the colour of the fruit that is mixed in will give it a colour of that fruit and the use of food colouring ....take a bite of a strawberry and dip it into some whip cream ...that part of the whip cream turns pink and the seeds and the little crunch in the yogurt is the seeds of the strawberry completely harmless...

I doubt the yogurt companies themselves do it, but if you look on the back of certain flavors (the red ones...cherry, strawberry, raspberry, etc.) you'll probably see "carmine". Carmine is a bug byproduct used for tinting certain foods red or pink.

Yep it's true. If your food has Cochineal listed as an ingredient. In fact many red or pink colored foods use Cochineal to color them, not just yogurt.

Yes it's true--the pink/ red coloring in shakes also have cochineal ingredients. Read Eric Schlosser's book.

Does it matter? You don't taste them or anything, it's just colour.

If only you knew what kind of allowances they made for insects in canned and processed foods, and we're all still alive and (relatively) well.

Sugar Ple, how do you think they get the red food colour?
I have no idea and i don't care. It would be natural colour though. No chemicals. I guess i have nothing against it. xD
