Areas affecting the environment are the deforestation, liquid and solid wastes. Hence it will be to useful the environment while maing money if we practice:
1. Maintain nurseries for neem which help absorb more CO2.
2. General trees to be grown - nursery for these to have afforestation programmes.
3. Disposed acids after use in batteries are procured and given to industries making 'alum' which also will be helpful in getting scrap iron being utilised for the above.
4. Disposed chemicals to be procured for a price and neutralised and residues sold where possible. (Some cases used as fertilisers)
5. Trying recycling of solid wastes.

Get a PhD and do something with conservation.
You could do little things to save the environment while also saving a lot of money. When you go to the grocery store take your own bag(s). Buy the energy efficient light bulbs. Have a place in your backyard where you can have a compost pile. Basically, you put all of your leftover food there. You can put anything but meat. You can even put coffee filters out there. It doesn't smell. Take shorter and less frequent showers (don't stop showering just take fewer). Recycle any items that can be recycled. If you can, take the bus, ride your bike, or carpool to work, school, or place of worship.

You can become an electrical energy distributor. If you have a home or business that can use renewable energy (solar, wind, bio-waste, etc), any excess power that you generate from those sources is usually bought by your local utility at market value (about $0.10 per kW-hr).
The rub is that you must contact your utility company and deal with some red tape to install additional equipment at your home/business that disconnects your power generation system from the grid in case power line equipment needs repair. There may be some other red tape to deal with as well. If you succeed to produce more energy than you consume, you will be helping alleviate some of the load from power plants that may be burning fossil fuels. Check out the PopSci link for a successful example.
You can make more money by being more efficient in the energy that you use (more excess power generated). Once the system is in place, it is pretty hands-free except for maintenance. Search for other questions on Yahoo Answers to point you in the right direction to buy/install solar, wind, etc systems. I have seen quite a few questions asked already.

Pushing a shopping cart around gathering tin cans is one. Also use recycled cardboard for your "will work for food sign".
OK, seriously. The problem with recycling is sorting the stuff out. There are already a number of practicle ways to make money with recycled materials, like I said though, you need a pure feed of that material. For example, putting plastic or metal in an acid bath needed to recycle newspapers is a very, very, bad idea.
So if you want to attack the problem, you need to get people to sort their recyclables properly.

Recycling, you can open your own plant and get gov. support/money. Or you can get gov. money for saving animals in oil spills and human made disasters. Or of course plant a bunch on fruits and vegetables to sell and at the same time save the plants.
