Highlight their work ethic. Do they follow instruction? Are they reliable? Hard worker? Punctual? What are some of their strong points? Special skills they've shown? What you are trying to do with a reference letter is show the prospective employer why YOU think this person is worthy of the position they are applying for. Think of it as you would writing your own resume...it's basically the same. You highlight acheivements and strong qualities that would qualify for the job. But remember that your name is on that piece of paper so make sure you believe everything you are writing. Don't just load it up with junk just to help a friend. Make sure you highlight their individual qualities and you'll be set!
Good luck!

Knowledge of the job she is applying for, her trustworthiness, her ability to learn. Has she gone to college or has other experience? Is she popular with other workmates? Does she keep time? Dependable? Capability? Ambition? Reallly, give a good character reference, can she work in a team and contribute her knowledge. Is she flexible in her approach to work? How long have you known her and in what capacity - no use if you for instance share a flat and go out clubbing together. Read your letter and if you would be pleased to receive same, then send it.

Make sure you head the letter with the words 'Without Prejudice'. That is a standard term for a reference letter that says this is your opnion of them, but you won't be held to it if the prospective employers start litigant action if the friend turns-out to be a thieving, workshy nerk.

stuff like how long u have known them, what their abilities are, any special awards, achievements, why they would be a good candidate for the job, etc...usually the prospective employer calls u to ask questions but if u have to write a letter those are some tips, ask your friend what they would like you to include....good luck.

Make sure to include specific examples of situations that are similar to what they may encounter on the job. Also, include your qualifications, if any, to make yourself appear more credible.

0nly what you actually know.
Make your reference relevant to the reference (eg If your friend is applying for a job as a bus driver, they do not need to know that he is fluent in Spanish!)
Be honest
Why not ask youir friend what he/she feels to be relevant?
