I'd probably take that matter to the local Running store and ask them. They are usually the best at determining what sort of shoe / insert you might need. I am not a fan of the "big box" shoe stores, as the people working there arent' runners.

I've have had good luck with some of the Dr Scholls stuff. They are cheap and work almost as well as orthotics (according to some published reports). I used to use the cushioned heel supports until I did get orthotics.

Just do yourself a favor and make sure you have quality running shoes. You are only inviting injury if you don't have good shoes. You may find it worthwhile to pick up this month's Runner's World and Running Times magazines. They have an exhaustive shoe report.
