I am in this program called Police Explorers and they call us volunteers. We do community service and hold our meetings at the police department. Does that classify as working there or do you need to get paid for it to be classified as work? I can get some discounts if I work at the Police Department so I was wondering if this would qualify.

I would just be honest and ask the merchants if they will give you the discount since you are in the police explorers. You will probably get different answers at the different businesses. You can't find out without inquiring. Good Luck!

For employment purposes it does not qualify as working there. For it to be considered work you have to be paid. Now if you are trying to get a discount at a store that sales equipment and supplies to police and firefighters you may still be able to get the discount. I'm a volunteer firefighter and am still able to get the discounts that full time firefighters get at surplus stores. It's the decision of the store's management and owners. Check with them if you're eligible for the discounts that you want

police explorers are an explorer post which is apart of Boy Scouts of America. its all volenteer. Fire explorers dont get paid either and they do alot more than police explorers. i tried both after i got my Eagles scout award. i found the police explorers boring and it doesnt help getting hired in the department. i am going to school for CJ and i do more on ride alongs than a normal police explorer does. you get no discounts for being a police explorer. go to school and get certified as a police officer, then go work for a police dept.

work= money in exhange for services. you're a volunteer, so you aren't "working" you're volunteering. Perhaps you would still qualify, however. Just ask.

You can probably use your volunteer hour statement if they give you one; otherwise it's not.
