Hello

Im interested to know if you can observe how the popularity of religion waxes and wanes as you look at a cross section of society?

for example how are variables such as age, class, education and even race associated with 'belief'

Furthermore, to what extent has religion declined in modern europe?

Many thanks!

The west is associated with Christianity. The East is associated with Buddhism. Roughly speaking. Buddism originally originated in India. Move to China. To Japan and korea. Although Korea now has the biggest christian population than any country. It has the biggest church as well. Christianity an "upshoot" of Judaism is from Israel, Jerusalem. Which interestingly prior to 1948 there is no modern day Israel as we know it. China has a mix of folklore and religion base on the cosmic force and taoism before mixing up with buddhism. Although now it would seem, Christianity is moving West to East. Buddhism thru the likes of Richard Gere has move East to West. Even Tibetan Dalai Lama has met Bush and is working on a project with MIT. Coming back to Europe, christianity has spltted and splitted there and in America. From Catholiscm to Anglican to Methodist to Baptist. Making Christianity one of the least understood religion nowadays. Hinduism is primarily in India with a mix of their caste system. Although the Hindu practices does better and gone global in terms of yoga and aruyavedic diet. Islam is primarily in the Middle East, some part of south east asia, specifically Malaysia and Indonesia.[250million people] Although it would seem through migration policies, Europe will soon be split, between islam and other religions.

You have a great deal of work ahead to toil at such an undertaking. I wish you luck.
Which of the 7000 interpretations of Christianity, or the numerous form and deities worshiped around the world do you wish to study?
Then consider if only Christianity, which of the 278 differing forms of the Bible do you wish to use as source for the religion you wish to observe in opposition to the multiple form of democracy the world over.
I may suggest that you search for an "invisible needle" in a hay stack the height of Everest, such a search may be resolved, where the one you propose will lead in too many directions.

I'm sure there are loads of studies you can look up on this. From what I've discovered, religion tends to be weaker in the higher educated, stronger in those in lower economic class (the two of which coincide). I'm not sure how age affects it, though I imagine it has less of an impact than socio-economic station. Oppressed societies skew towards the religious unless there is a specific state-formed mandate to curtail such belief.

There is no set place. Some people are religious and some arent
Many young people are very religious. More so than grownups who resist change and never studied the bible.
Have to ask a european about that.
All religion has declined that s a fact. In all areas most young people are Athesits.

yes and no

you can snapshot it...
there are definite trends, but they are not very predictive

modern europe is heavily secular and in many countries less than 5% of people attend any religious group, canada is in between the us and eurupe in that regard and the US is more relgious in nature than either

some exceptions would be Ireland, Poland and pockets of the Medeteranean but strong influence of humanism, evolutionary thinking and seculaarism all over Europe

I've never tried it, but it is an interesting idea. If you have a knack for research, perhaps you could get a government grant to study it.

Religion survives best in oppressed communities, and amongst the very poor.

Do away with these things, and it will gradually die out.
