My grandkids call me Meme. And I am 45. I was 39 when my first grandchild was born.
Grandma was taken
Granny I refuse to be called.........lol
Nana is taken.

But to tell you the truth.......That grandbaby is going to call you whatever he/she feels like. You may call yourself grandma but they are eventually going to come up with what they want to call you all on their own. It may be something off the wall but hey at least you will have your own individuality in their eyes and hearts.

That is why I left it up to my grandkids to call me what they wanted to. We started out calling me Grandma Jo when speaking to them. Well now I am Meme because that is what they want to call me.

Be called what you would be called regardless of the age you become it. Have you ever seen a beautiful person with what you thought was an ugly name? After a while the name becomes associated with beauty. You make the new standard for what a grandparent is and enjoy the look of shock on peoples face when the kid calls you grandma. You can be proud that you are making the image of grandparents a more youthful thing.

Also, whatever you choose to be called, this child and their siblings will be calling you that for the rest of your lives, well into THEIR adulthood. It will stick and you can't change it later, so consider not using a silly young version of a grandma/ grandpa name, for you will have it when you are old also!

Grandma, Grandpa. Ashamed of being grandparents? Shame on you. I love being called Grandpa, it's a badge of honor. My father never lived long enough to see his grandchildren. Put things in perspective.

I don't see what the problem with Granny and Grandpa are, they have nothing to do with age rather than honor...but if you don't want the honor I guess you can't be forced to receive it right? How about being called by your first names or Mr. And Mrs. whatever your last name is?

We called my grandparents Big Daddy and Me-me. My other grandparents were known by their first names, which I didn't find odd until I was older. Ma and Pa are good ones. Or Ma and Pa and then your first names. Like Papa John. =)

Welcome to the club because I am 37 and became a G' ma on July 22. I have prepared for this event since my son told me he had gotten his girlfriend pregnant. I just can NOT be called grandma and I came up with the G' ma name. It can stand for Grand ma, Great ma, Greatest, Greater,...hell it can stand for whatever you feel at the moment. Yes I am going to have my G' child call me G' ma. (ha ha) Congrats to you!
