Yes, you can go anyway you want. Broadway shows are very touristy events and therefore, casualwear is the norm. However, there are some (few) that do have some kind of more formal dress reqs, but they tell you before hand.

If you're seeing a matinee (daytime performance), casual dress like jeans is more acceptable. If you're attending an evening performance, you may want to dress it up a bit more than jeans - even casual slacks and a sportshirt would be better than blue jeans.

It's not a hard rule, consider what you have planned before and after the show when deciding.

Why not? You're in the audience, not on stage. That stuff you see in movies with guys in tuxedos and top hats is only for major opening nights. And even then, they don't wear top hats to the theater anymore. I saw the opening night production of the musical version of "The Producers" in Chicago and Mel Brooks himself was in the audience ans he was just wearing some corduroy jacket, a shirt without a tie and some plain old pants. And he WROTE the darn thing. Jeans are fine.

Yes you can, but you'd show more class if you wore a nice pair of dress pants & shirt (tie optional)! If you're taking a date, I'm sure she'll dress nicely.......if your attending with a crowd, find out what they're wearing! Although anything goes today, remember it's not a rock concert! But do look your best no matter what you wear! Enjoy!

If the show is a matinee, then jeans are acceptable. If it is at 8:00 at night, you should dress more formally.

Broadway is tourist central. You can dress up or down and still be acceptable. Don't fret about it.
