I have two dogs and one of them licks like mad. He licks his paws, clothes, feet, shoes, furniture, and he does not stop. He'll sit with my wife and start licking her pants leg, and he'll keep at it for as long as she'll let him, even trying to get back if she pushes him away. I've heard of 'hard licker' before, but this is ridiciulous!

Please note: earlier question about having him lick my back hair was a JOKE but this one is semi-serious. I do want to know, but out of idle curiousity.

I have two Pembroke Welsh Corgis. One is obsessed with licking and the other is not. Licking the pillows until they were soaking wet is what got him ousted from the bed at night. I used to think that maybe he could taste my hair gel, or shampoo, or even sweat on the pillows, and that's why he licked them. But that doesn't explain why he licks the floor or the wall, or any other inanimate tasteless objects. I just think he's weird. My other dog, the non licker, attacks the garbage disposal, the dishwasher, air freshener, spray bottles, the blender, or any other noise making objects or appliances...and he barks when you say "God Damnit" or "F-u-c-k" and attacks you if you dance. They both stalk and attack the vaccuum cleaner too. I have strange dogs.

obsessive licking behavior can be caused by two things that I know of, boredom and allergies. I am sure there are others. Obsessive compulsive behavior for one. Maybe even a nutrient deficiency.
I would rule against allergies because he is licking other things besides himself.
Take that pup to the vet, see what they say.

My dog drives me nuts sometimes. She'll even lick the pillow cases, which is gross. I finally have to yell at her. What makes them do this?

Tell your wife to stop spreading gravy and meat sauce on her pant legs and othe area. That should stop it.
