His techniques work when applied properly. He "dumbs it down" for those people who don't have a clue, and he has a gift.

Now, to address his "outdated" Technique.....

His technique is NOT outdated, it's just as simple as it can get. He's NOT a trainer, but an animal behaviorist, which means he went to school to learn the BEHAVIORS of animals and the reasons behind them. He does NOT train dogs, he rehabilitates them. He trains HUMANS to deal with their dogs. It truly is as simple as he makes it look.

The hardest thing for adults to do is to listen to someone who knows and whose ideas contradict their own, which is more than evident here on Yahoo Answers.

Can't stand him. His methods can be downright dangerous in the wrong hands and the results he portrays on his show are not realistic. He is completely about supressing behavior rather than teaching the dog to behave appropriately, making unanimated robots.

For trainers/behaviorists who get the job done while creating a happier relationship between dog and owner, check out Ian Dunbar, Patricia McConnell, Jean Donaldson, Trish King or Kathy Sdao. They are fantastic!

His training methods are outdated by several decades.

His basic message that dogs need training, leadership and exercise is a good one. The actual methods he uses on his show for "training" are pretty awful and sometimes dangerous. He himself is gifted in the way he holds his body and uses his voice, which is why dogs respond so well to him. Not everyone can do that and in fact most people really can't.

Most professional dog trainers who have continued to educate themselves to the new advances in the field just roll their eyes when someone mentions him.

I really hate it when people "baby" and "spoil" their dogs and definately think that kind of behavior does way more harm than good, but there are other ways to train a dog than beating it up and "dominating" it. Look up "positive dog training" and "clicker training." These are actually the techniques that professional exotic animal trainers use to train seals, dolphins, tigers and other wild animals in captivity, and the methods work just as well with dogs.

I think he is awesome too. I just watched him last night and am always amazed how he can tame the animal almost instantly. He does have a special air about him and animals pick up on that.

I have several well behaved dogs of my own and agree with everything he teaches.

I LOVE HIM!
I have thought the same way all of my life, and my friends and family thought I was crazy for being the ALPHA female of my pack...My mother-in-law always wondered why her dog listened to me better than to her...I was dominant over the dog...she was a DOG not human!

Go Cesar!

I think hes good at what he does but thats all he does so he has to be good. It's not as hard as you think to read an animal. I train horses so to keep myself and the horse safe I have to be able to read what theyre thinking and how they will react to a situation. So while paying attention to the horse you have to watch what you do also. You have to be careful how you cue the horse and you have to watch your surroundings to make sure nothing will scare the horse. Theres more but thats the main things. So you can maybe see why I dont think hes so great.

I believe that he has a true insight into the "pack mentality" of canines. Some of his ideas are good, some are hog wash! He apparently is hard working, has charisma and has good business sense and has turned his life long goal into a money making machine.

Some trainers poo poo his ideas...but those Holly weird people have embraced him wholeheartedly!

He is the best dog trainer I ever seen. I love to watch his show. He really knows what best for us the parents. We need the training not the dogs.

I LOVE HIM!!!! I have used his techniques on an issue with my own dog & I have found that they work. And isn't that what it is all about?

I love my dogs, but they are not babies or people, they are still dogs and respond to dog psychology.
