I live in the richest country in Europe (Norway) and have never met a person who wasn't shocked I'm living here and wouldn't trade me passports in a second. They love America but your CNN poles leave that fact out.

At last some voices of reason on the matter of America bashing. I communicate often with Europeans and educated people share the view, "hate your leaders, love your country". Many of us are now and have been anti-war since the Viet Nam era, its deja vu all over again. Us old folks grieve for the death and destruction the US has wrought in the middle east. We weep for the families who've lost loved ones in the military. Peace.

I believe you. Most people even Americans, dislike Bush. We misinterpret that people in other countries are being Anti-American when they talk about how they hate our government. Their just Anti-Bush. To change the subject very slightly, I saw the Iranian president on TV and read his letter to Bush. I also think he hates Bush and not exactly the American people. He asked Bush why he is sending young Americans into war for an unjust war. I have never heard him bash the American public, just Bush.

I have no problems with anybody as an individual. i have never met an unpleasant American - a few shallow ones- but never unpleasant. As a nation however things are a little different. My own personal feeling is that US acts a little like an only child whose parents have instilled huge amounts of self-cofidence but never provided the love and attention it so sorely craves. Listen to the world a little more, learn to share and practice a modicum of live and let live - maybe then the hugs and kisses will come

I don't believe that they all stereotype us. I don't think they hate all American citizens but they question our international policies. Some Americans are also seen as cocky. Which we are-don't you think the US is the best country in the world? I know that I do.
However, I have encountered people in Paris making comments in French right in front of me because they assume that I do not know French. Its so nice to put them in their place when they are calling me a stupid American.

That's my experience as well. I've actually had some conversations that consisted of, "Why would Americans care? We don't care if the Americans like our government?" We're all just people.

I don't think they hate Americans in general but I do think they hate our government. I don't blame them - our government is very arrogant.
