I know a person in my building is living under state housing rules where the state pays most of the rent because he has physical problems however over about a month ago this person had another person move in with him who has a good job and in theory could pay the full rent without the state paying anything to help them I don't think this is fair to cheat the state and let these people who can pay full rent get away with paying less then half because one person has problems when the other doesn't

Welfare fraud is one of the worst kinds as you are taking miney away from others who need it more plus you are cheating everyone else out of their hard-earned money. I would always report a welfare cheat. Why should he or she get a free ride on my dime?

Not saying its right but I am assuming this person also cannot find a job and might be trying to have a little cash to pay for his mom who is on her death bed that the state won't take care of. You would ultimatly be killing her. Just something to think about. I am sure even with state helped rent that this person isn't partying their butt off. ultimatly you don't know the circumstances and it should not be your business.

ordinarily, i would say mind your own business.

but, public assistance tends to be a zero-sum game because there is a finite amount of budgeted funds. that is, if this person is taking money when he doesn't really need it, then other people who may be more deserving or needy are deprived of those monies.

so if you are 100% sure that the state is being cheated, you might consider an anonymous tip. keep in mind, though, that the state is likely to come down on this person rather harshly, and be sure that it is worth it, given your and his situations.

morally it is the right thing to do. The fraud is against all of us taxpayers. The more fraud there is, the fewer real people in need that can get help.
