Just flat out ask him....tell him that you are not comfortable meeting someone that you met online without verifying a few things first. If he is worth meeting he will understand and not be offended in any way. He should be more than happy to give you any info you feel you need. Other than that....if you call one precinct, just tell them that you need to speak to him about a case he is working on, but you don't know which precinct he is in (say you lost his card or you forgot or something)....they should be able to look it up for you. Seriously though...if he gets upset that you want "verification" don't meet him.

Best way to find out where he works is to look up the website first. Get an email address and send info asking for stuff related to what he does. Check it out completely.

You can contact the main precincts public relations officer and ask if they have an officer so-and-so on staff, or call all of the precincts and ask if they have an officer so-and-so working, if not, do they know what precinct he is in, and how to contact him. Good Luck and Happy Sleuthing !

Impersonating a police officer is a serious offence.
I hope for his sake he wasn't lying, or you could get him in real trouble
