I think that when they can get out is a good indicator, you wouldn't want them to fall trying to climb out. getr a toddler bed and let your child pick out the sheet set, the wil love the new bed, put in the room next to the crib and they can play on it and get used to it, eventually they will sleep in it.

It depends on if another baby is coming, the size of the child, your tired of looking at the crib, whatever. The purpose of a crib, as I see it, is to keep the child confined and safe when you are asleep. Once they start climbing out on their own, I think they are old enough for a regular bed--and yes I know some can climb out when they are as young as a little over a year. Then you have to make sure you use a waterproof mattress pad so you don't ruin the mattress.

Both of my children were different, one was at 17 months and the other was at 15 months. I personally think its when they can walk (good), and get out of the crib all on there own. That is usually the best indication that its time to move up in the bed stages.

I moved my children to a bed when they started showing signs of trying to climb out of the crib. They might try to stand on bedding or other things in the crib to get out. This is dangerous and needs to be addressed.

For my son, He was about a year old.
Mostly because he saw his 3 year old sister in a big girl bed. So we just put him in a toddler bed. From there it was about 6 months until he was in a total big bed.

At age 2, we bought our twins big boy beds for their birthday (twin beds). They were small for their age, a larger faster developing child could move earlier.

My son was two years, my daughter we waited a little longer because we moved about two months after her second birthday so we waited until she was thirty two months, we didn't want to much upheaval for her at one time.
