It's the hardest thing you'll ever have to do, but the only thing that will work - IF - you keep at it.
Ignore her. At 4 years old, she hasn't got the stamina to keep it up. Believe it or not, tantrums are exhausting!! You can absolutely not give in to her. No matter how long it takes, you have to stand your ground. When she does calm down long enough, approach her and very quietly ask what is she wants from you. If it's material things, don't give her an automatic no. Ask her why she wants it or thinks she needs it. Eventually you will come to a bargaining agreement. She will learn that by not screaming, she will get a little leeway. Try not to make things black and white, let her see there are shades of gray. The tantrums stop, and you will discuss it. If not, she gets nowhere. PERIOD
Good luck.

Children go through different stages as they develop. Right now she is testing you and how she can end up getting her way. Sit her down and talk to her in a way that she will understand, tell her that this is not an acceptable behavior and find a way to punish her when she acts this way, perhaps take away her television privileges, or a favorite toy each time she does this. Be consistent in whatever you do, giving in just once will open the door again for her to continue her behavior. If all fails then seek the advice of a child psychologist.

My daughter did the same thing (she is now 22) but one day she was taking her hissy fit and my mom was at my house. My mother said get down on the floor next to her. I was really confused. As my daughter was throwing a tantrum my mom said do exactly what she is doing. My daughter was confused that her mommy was doing the same thing she was doing. After a week of me looking like an idiot, screaming when she screamed & kicking my feet when she was kicking her feet, she finally gave up with the temper trantrums and we never had theat probelm again.
PS>>>It actually feels good when you take the tantrum..lol

Spare the rod & Spoil the child...A good spanking never hurt anyone, but not all the time. You might want to take her to a professional for some help. There maybe some underlying problems at school, or daycare that are causing her to act out at home.
She is old enough to reason with and understand that when she acts this way you are not going to tolerate her behavior and punishment will follow. Clear out all her favorite toys , no TV, no outside etc.
Don't give in to tears and stand firm with punishment. Also talk to her teacher and see how she is doing in school...
Good luck!

This is a classic power struggle. She sure has you wrapped around her finger, doesn't she? Don't spank or hit her...it will only teach her how to be aggressive and that violence is all right. She is trying to control a situation. Remember, from a toddler's perspective, the world orbits them.
You might try videotaping her tantrums, and playing them back for her (with others present) and laughing about it. Maybe a little shame about her bad behaviors would work....
